GolfNow — Redefining the booking experience for golf.

During my time at GolfNow / Golf Channel, I joined the NBC Universal owned UX team as an in-house product designer & user experience lead, to redesign the GolfNow responsive website as well as the mobile apps. In collaboration with the Technology, Marketing and Revenue teams. I laid out new design systems, UI elements and overhauled the visual design of the website and app.

BOOK TEE TIMES ON THE GO

GolfNow is an online booking service for tee times at golf courses in the US, Mexico, Canada and UK, and it was mandatory that they were perceived as helping golfers to book tee times no matter where their travels takes them. I created an “sea of greens” concept for the app, that we developed and tested for weeks. Offering tee times at golf courses, constantly reviewed by golfers through Golf Advisor, but also personalized accordingly to what you have booked previously, the app is an intelligent companion for discovering tee times in your home area or traveling.

YOUR GOLFING LIFE

While the competition maintained their tee times structured as other online booking engines, I wanted to go back and rethink the booking experience. If you don’t know what to search for, opening the app is enough for you to find a course that's enticing to play, always. You’re not browsing through an endless amount of tee times and prices, you’re offered all the course content GolfNow can offer, in one simple page. If you’re looking for a weekend tee time, Hot Deal or something specific, searching the course directory is possible with just one tap.

INTELLIGENT INTERACTIONS

Being that the GolfNow mobile app was built from the ground up coming from its predecessor, I wanted to make sure that I utilized interactions, not for the sake of the 'WOW' factor, but keeping in mind the target audience that the app is meant for. Through in-house design reviews, prototyping and user testing in the wild, I made sure to use sensible interactions that would not leave our user base confused, keeping them coming back to the app for the tee time booking needs. In doing so, the app generates more bookings than the website by comparison.

GolfNow — Responsive website for the biggest online booking service in the world.

Upon joining Golf Channel / GolfNow in late 2015, the GolfNow website was in the middle of a redesign. Transitioning from a standard website to a responsive website. Coming into the company, I took over as Sr. Designer and implemented a fresh redesign of the GolfNow site. Setting digital design standards in iconography and typography used across all GolfNow products and working with our Marketing department to create a Digital Design Guide to make sure that the brand stayed consisted across all mediums.

CONCEPT, RESEARCH, DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT

My workflow consists of starting out with lo-fidelity designs, sharing my mockups via Sketch and InVision via Bi-Weekly design meetings that I host with stakeholders. Vetting these concepts with focus groups of golfers in our target audience. Building interactive prototypes and lastly working closely with developers to get the designs developed to specifications.

Huddle — A NBC Sports Idea Lab solution conceived during an annual think-tank composed of small groups of NBC Sports employees in the US.

Proposal for a fantasy sports app that is geared to sports fans, which combines fantasy sports play along with team-specific meet-up's in cities that users find themselves in.

ABOUT THE CONCEPT

Everything was designed to offer a tailored experience to users. According to the day of the week, the sports season or the events, the app would publish relevant information as to your favorite team's scores, news & meet-up's. Editorial & Commerce are entangled to create business value by tying in online shopping through NBC Sports Store.

I'm an Orlando based NN/g Certified UX designer with over 10 years of experience in the digital design industry. Always combining form with function, my practice finds its ground in simplicity. I work from the core of user experience to the latest visual details, all of which would be impossible without solid processes & enthusiastic team work.
